I was playing around with the 8lb free weights I have kicking around at home the other night, and I realized that I'm going to have to get heavier ones.
Too easy!

I always intend to work out at the hotel, but it never happens Hah, I know. I don't even bother bringing work out clothes with me anymore. No point in taking up suitcase space with sneakers I'm not going to wear. I am, however, almost back in the workout groove thanks to bringing my things to work with me. I say almost because it's only been a couple of weeks of going regularly. I'm feeling good about keeping that up. I've been doing mega-cardio, but need to fine tune my weight workout. It's been a little haphazard..this machine here, some free weights there; but not quite comprehensive enough. |

The foot that was broken back in June? FINALLY healed in February. I just started working out again this past week. Don't EVER get yourself a
pseudo-jones fracture. They take for freakin ever to heal!

Geez Louise. What a hassle! I'm glad it finally healed up for you.
I set a goal to exercise 12 times in March. So far? Twice.

If you tend to get sore knees running/walking down hills, is there something that can be done exercise-wise that might make that happen less in the future?

Some people wear knee braces. Yes, it looks dorky. But you do what you gotta do.

I was more wondering if there were exercises that could strengthen the area... I assume losing weight might help too.

Knee braces. Wear them even if your knees don't hurt, because soon they will. Running is terrible for them -- and don't take the wrong, I ran long
after my doctor ordered me not to, though I finally had to quit.
What might also help is building up muscle around the knees by doing weight exercises. If you don't have equipment, do squats and lunges and that sort of thing. It will help to protect the joints some. Another trick, if you can do it, is to walk down the steeper downhills, especially on hard surfaces, and run uphill and on the flats. That might not fit in with the hashing and stuff. But it will be just as good a workout and your knees will last way longer.
I wonder why coffee tastes so good when you're naked with your family.

ms chinook, When the knee I screwed up skiing starts hurting, I do lunges up and down my hall way. Just a few sets when I think about it. I find that
strenthening those big thigh muscles (surely they have a name?) helps my knee a lot.
I am very out of shape but considering signing up a swimming class. The problem is that the class if schedule to meet for 1 hour and 40 minutes four times a week. That seems really long for a swimming class. Frankly, that would have to be a 1/3 swimming, 2/3s floating class for me. |

Bumping this since I realy need to work out more. Has anyone used the fit program on Wii? I have a friend who has been doing this and pilates and she says its
great. I am not sure I have the discipline to do it on my own but i am thinking of giving it a try.

New personal record: barbell squat @ 155lbs.

And, my ego from last night is now punctured and deflated. I got stuck under the bar on the second rep of a pathetic 70lb bench press. Made yelpy noises until
some kind sir pulled it off me. Well, at least I know what my one-rep max is...

Another shitty workout. Managed 145lbs on the deadlift, which is ten pounds less than my former max. And it tore my hands the fuck up and I couldn't grip
the bar long enough to finish my second set of the Romanian varietal (which requires you to sort of "present" your ass to the viewing public). And
when I tried "goodmornings" (where you shoulder the barbell like for a barbell squat and do a sort of bow) something screamed in my lower back. It
was real pain and not just muscle soreness, so I quit for the night before something fell off.

So, I think I might have progressed too fast with the lower body work. My lumbar spine is unhappy with me and my... is it sacroiliac? area on both sides seems
to have walked out on strike.
I did some deep tissue stuff tonight with a tennis ball. It isn't dignified to apply your butt cheek to a tennis ball and scuttle back and forth on the floor, but damn does it seem to work.
